What we do
The aims of the Devon Play Association
(devonplay)
devonplay's
mission is the fulfilment of Article 31 of the United Nations
Convention on the Rights of the Child:
- To recognise the right of the child to rest and leisure,
to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to
the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life
and the arts.
- To respect and promote the right of the child to participate
fully in cultural and artistic life and to encourage the provision
of appropriate and equal opportunities for cultural, artistic,
recreational and leisure activity.
devonplay
works toward the fulfilment of Article 31 by:
- working strategically (at a national, regional, and local level);
- acting as an umbrella organisation; and,
- delivering hands-on local projects in four main areas;
- work with communities,
- outdoor and environmental play,
- information provision,
- consultation with children.
devonplay
works with:
- national and regional organisations, including Skills Active, the Children’s Play Council, NCPE South West and Playwork Partnerships; and,
- local groups in Devon, Plymouth and Torbay with an interest in play;
- community groups, schools and district/parish councils,
- play associations and (zero14plus) play settings,
- Devon Children’s Fund, EYDCP and Forest Schools Network.
Children and young people are at the core of our work.
